Ometepe means ‘two hills’ in native Nahuatl language and it is a place that has a laid-back traditional and rustic feel. The island is dominated by two impressive volcanoes; Concepcion Volcano has an amazing active steep cone reaching 1610m and the beautiful Maderas Volcano is covered with cloud forest and has a crater lake on its’ summit. Ometepe is an ideal place for nature lovers and key attractions include Playa Santo Domingo, the longest beach on the east side of the island, and Charco Verde, a natural reserve with a lagoon. A diverse range of activities available on the island include hiking, kayaking, biking and horse-back riding.
