North-west of Arequipa is the dramatic and scenic Colca Valley. Original Inca terracing is still in use, as are many of the valley’s simple colonial churches. The Colca River has formed the world’s second deepest canyon, the head of which is one of the best places in South America to view condors gliding on the morning thermals.
