Home to half the population, Georgetown is the country’s capital with a colourful, distinctly Caribbean feel, a test cricket ground and one of the world’s largest wooden buildings (St George’s Cathedral).

At 741 feet the magnificent Kaieteur Falls are four times the height of Niagara. Viewed from light aircraft, or close up, Kaieteur is an amazing experience. Giant bromeliads line the pathways and the beautiful Cock of the Rock can often be seen in the trees.

The million acre reserve of Iwokrama has been created to help preserve the tropical rainforest. Walk amongst the trees on the aerial walkway and look out for the 500 bird and 200 mammal species and even the elusive jaguar. The nearby Amerindian community of Surama offers an interesting insight into traditional Guyanese life.
